Tennessee

Okay I'm going to tell you about a trip to Tennessee.
It was the a four day stay. It started June 5th-8th. While the boys (my dad, grandpa, Kane and I) traveled to Tennessee, the girls were on a trip to Minnesota. It was a six hour drive to get to my dad's friend Oleg Volk's house. We stopped to eat lunch at in a National park in Massac County, Illinois.
At the park was a historic fort from 1798. It was owned by four countries. First it was owned by the Spanish, then it was owned by the French, then it was owned by the British (my favorite country), and finally it was rebuilt to look like long ago by the Americans. I ,myself, got to go in it with the other people.
After that we drove to Oleg's house. The next day we drove to a gun shop called Hero Gear in Winchester, Tennessee. About 25 people were there. We then listened to the owner tell us we were going to take a half- hour drive to this cabin.
The view of that place was incredible. You could see the mountains and stuff there. Well after everyone introduced themselves and the owner of the 2,200 acres told us the rules, we headed down to the range.
We got the guns ready and loaded the ammunition. After about ,I think, two hours we had lunch at the cabin and the walked back down to the range.
I shot an AR-15, revolver, Yeager, Luger, and this one gun I just can't remember. We stayed and had dinner there. The moon was just so beautiful.
We drove back to Oleg's house and slept.
The next day we drove back and I shot a machine gun and grenade launcher. We then drove a mule go-cart to a cave that goes miles in. There is flint in the wall about 3-6in. long.
We then drove to a cornfield to look for arrowheads and we found three that are over 3,000 years old.
When we got back to the range it was to late to shoot so we packed up and drove to Hero Gear. There we met some people who we drove together to a restaurant and ate Mexican food until 10 o' clock at night. We drove back to Oleg's house and slept. Then we got up the next day and drove back to Virden.

  1. That's pretty awesome. I mean, I've never shot a grenade launcher!

The fort sounded pretty cool, too.

  3. It's VERY cool that your dad took you to that: kinda wish I coulda done things like that at your age... ;)

BTW: you'll be getting blogrolled in a couple days, so be ready for some increased traffic (not from me, although I'll add ya. But your dad has LOTS of friends).

And looking forward to reading this book of yours...

  4. The "Yeager" is the Jager AP74. It's a blowback .22, but it looks just like an old-school AR-15 complete with triangular handguards, bird-cage flash hider, bayonet lug--and no forward assist.

An heirloom from Donovan's grandpa, it used to be an excellent kids' gun (in fact, it was the gun I used to learn to shoot a rifle.) In today's world, it's not really kids' stuff anymore. :)

If you want to talk about something else just talk about it if it isn't against the rules.
